2011 World’s Most Expensive Cities
This may be hard to believe for those whose hands are still smarting from filling out this month’s rent check or mortgage payment, but when Business Week ranked the world’s 30 most expensive cities, New York didn’t even make the list. Japan and Norway hog the first five spots before Switzerland jumps in, taking four of the next six. In all fairness, housing costs weren’t included in this survey, but in Tokyo, which topped the list, a beer costs $10.50, a dozen eggs are $4.50, a ticket to the movies is $23.80, and the average rent for a 2-bedroom is $4,352.
#2: Oslo, Norway. Quick lunch: $45. Beer: $13. Eggs: $8.50. Movie ticket: 18.80.
#3 Nagoya, Japan. Quick lunch: $19. Beer: $11.40. Eggs: $3.80. Movie ticket: $21.80.
#4 Stavanger, Norway. Quick lunch: $32. Beer: $12.80. Eggs: $6.80. Movie ticket: $17.30.
#5 Yokohama, Japan. Quick lunch: $16.90. Beer: $6.59. Eggs: $2.50. Movie ticket: 21.70.
Eeking on at #30, Gothenburg Sweden. Quick lunch: $15.80. Beer: $8.64. Eggs: $4. Movie ticket: $15.30.
