Florida Takes Picking Up After Your Dog to a Whole New Level

By Jordan • July 8th, 2011

Beginning August 1, canine condo dwellers in a 458-unit building in Jupiter, Florida have to register with the state as potential offenders. Because of incidents and accidents in elevators and public spaces, each dog will need to take a $200 DNA test to have their genetic fingerprint put on file. The complex claims it pays $10-12K a year in cleanup and replacement costs due to pooch poop, and this way they can bill it back to the neglectful owners.

Sound ridiculous? DNA Pet World started last October and expects to have 300 franchises by year end. Hey, at least they have a business model, as opposed to that guy in Colorado who spent 8 weeks mapping dog doo on his GPS. Whether it will scale to New York, now that’s another matter.
