What Can You Get for $90,000 a Month in Manhattan?

By Jordan • March 8th, 2011

We wish real estate Mogul Derek Quinlan the luck of the Irish in fetching the same rent he got in 2006–$90,000/month– for his townhouse at 20 E. 64th street in Lenox Hill. After all, you heard it here first: rents are on the rise.

Quinlan picked up the 5-story, 12,500 square foot property for $26.25 million–the second most expensive townhouse deal of 2005. One of the ones to hit it big in the property boom over in Ireland, Quinlan’s worldwide portfolio of hotels and other properties took a dive along with the rest of the global market. When he attempted to sell in April of 2009, ostensibly to make a dent in the 600 million Euro debt he was reported to owe creditors,  the asking price was $37 million. More recently listed for $29.5 million, it’s now off the market and available for rent, although the price is unadvertised.

What would $90,000(ish) a month get you? 6 bedrooms, 7 1/2 bathrooms, a house-wide elevator system, stereo system, central air, a security system, multiple outdoor areas, home gym and theater, staff quarters, a wine cellar, and the flawless taste of interior designer and former owner Joanne de Guardiola, whose remodel was featured in Architectural Digest. The de Guardiola’s furniture may be gone, but the charms of intricate ceilings, fireplaces and even the oversized drapes remain.
