Are Those Dumbbells… Hermes?
Upcycle: The process of converting industrial material into something of similar or greater value in its second life.
Artistic director and 6th generation Hermès family member Pascale Mussard has launched a new line of accessories crafted from the scraps and defects left on the cutting room floor. Take, for example, these lovely dumbbells, crafted from leftover leather and crystal.
The new collection, Petit h, debuted in Paris in November. New Yorkers will have to wait until this October to check out these “unidentified poetic objects,” ranging in price from $70-$70,000.
Mussard meets with designers across divisions to realize their visions of whimsy, but she has three requirements: function, beauty and longevity. These things are fun alright, but functional? Okay, dumbbells, a swing, sure. But what is the function of that 4′ tall reindeer?
